Spiritual Counselor, Hospice Division - Part-Time Per Diem (Bilingual Spanish-English)

What you will do:
  • Acknowledge and respect the patient’s and family’s beliefs, culture and values related to life’s meaning including suffering and loss, and desire for services/support.
  • Assess the spiritual status of the patient, family, and caregiver.
  • Provide meditation, counseling, prayer, sacred rituals or practices, active listening, and supportive presence, as appropriate.
  • Document the spiritual assessment, goals for spiritual care and services provided, and the patient’s / family’s response to spiritual care.
  • Assist with funerals and memorial services as requested by patients and/or family.
  • Communicate with and support the involvement of local clergy and/or spiritual counselors as possible and as desired by the patient, family and caregiver.
  • Consult with and provide education to interdisciplinary team members, patients / families about spirituality related care and service.
Skills, education, and experience:
  • Appropriate ministry certificate or chaplain/ministry experience
  • Ability to be open, flexible and ecumenical.
  • Experience in working with patients/families dealing with life threatening illness and death.
  • Current CPR, TB and health clearance
  • Have the orientation and training appropriate to the care of the hospice/palliative patient and his/her family.
